530 MLE se považuje za první neoficiální M

Po dlouhých letech hledání nalezli lidé ze zastoupení německé značky BMW v Jižní Africe posledních pár kusů modelu 530 MLE. Jeden z nich teď vrátí do původního stavu.

A v čem je tento vůz tak unikátní? Tento příběh moc lidí nezná. V Jižní Africe existovala série závodů pro automobily, které jsou založené na produkčních sériích. V tuto dobu byla sportovní divize M teprve v prvopočátcích a v BMW se rozhodli zúčastnit. Základem pro závodní speciál byla řada 5, generace E12. Výsledek dostal přídomek MLE (Motorsport Limited Edition). 

Homologační speciál vznikl ve dvou typech. Type 1 vznikl v roce 1976 a to pouze ve 110 kusech. Type 2 vznikl ve 117 kusech o rok později. Právě druhý typ se stal prvním a neoficiálním produkčním modelem M, dva roky před supersportem M1. Zákazníci přijali vůz s takovým nadšením, že se v BMW rozhodli v produkci i nadále pokračovat.

Hnací síla pocházela z třílitrového šestiválce, který byl automobilkou vyladěn na výkon 147 kW (200 koní) a 277 Nm. Stejné parametry má například Golf GTI páté generace z roku 2005. Vůz byl schopen akcelerovat z 0 na 100 km/h za 9,3 sekundy a dosahoval maximální rychlosti 208 km/h. 

Tuto velmi speciální edici generace E12 vyráběla továrna BMW v jihoafrickém Rosslynu. Unikátní byly i díly karoserie. Ta byla kvůli snížení váhy vyrobena z hliníku a lehčené oceli. Některé díly karoserie jsou provrtány, stejně tak hliníkové pedály v interiéru. Všechny vozy byly pokryty bílou barvou s nízkým předním spoilerem, zadním křídlem a širšími blatníky. Exteriér byl doplněn dnes již klasickými pruhy BMW Motorsport, které vedly přes celou karoserii.

V BMW koupili vůz s číslem podvozku 770100. Jde o stý vyrobený kus z produkční linie. Společnost dokonce najala původní dělníky z továrny BMW, kteří vůz vyráběli jako nový, aby jej i zrenovovali. Tento vůz patřil závodníkovi Peterovi Kaye-Eddiemu a jeho týmu. Automobilka bude průběh renovace sdílet na sociálních sítích pod hashtagem #BMW530MLE.
