Zemřel závodník, zakladatel týmu a oblíbený komentátor.

Včera svůj boj s nemocí prohrál Eddie Jordan, zakladatel týmu Jordan, který je dnes součástí pole F1 pod jménem Aston Martin. Jako závodník to dotáhl do F3, kde však narazil na taková jména jako Nigel Mansell a Andrea de Cesaris a v roce 1980 se rozhodl raději založit vlastní tým britské F3. Ir svou stáj vytáhl z regionálních seriálů až na vrchol motorsportu. Podařilo se mu to v roce 1991 a její zlatou érou byl bezesporu konec 90. let. V sezoně 1998 ve VC Belgie tým s Damonem Hillem a Ralfem Schumacherem získal double a na konci roku byl čtvrtý v Poháru konstruktérů a o rok později dokonce třetí, hned za dominantními týmy Ferrari a McLaren.

To se však už do čím dál více populární F1 tlačily automobilky se svými dobře financovanými továrními týmy, zatímco Jordan Grand Prix měl hluboko do kapsy. Zakladatel ho prodal před sezonou 2006 a tým ze Silverstone se následně stal Midlandem, Spykerem, Force Indií a Racing Pointem, než se ho ujal Lawrence Stroll a propojil s britskou automobilkou Aston Martin, přičemž od příštího roku se konečně stane továrním týmem s plnou podporou výrobce motorů.

Mladší diváci sledující britskou televizi si budou Eddieho Jordana pamatovat jako komentátora, jenž se nebál přicházet s nečekanými názory a odvážnými teoriemi. Jordan měl však už jako majitel týmu image rebela, který život nebere příliš vážně, v příkrém kontrastu s velmi vážným McLarenem Rona Dennise.

Eddie Jordan měl ženu Marii a čtyři děti a za jeho činy v motorsportu a charitativní činnost byl vyznamenán Řádem britského impéria OBE. Když už tušil, že boj s rakovinou prostaty a močového měchýře nemůže vyhrát, jedním z jeho posledních odkazů bylo: „Jděte na pravidelné vyšetření, může vám to prodloužit čas na tomto světě.“
