Navigátora mu bude dělat motocyklový šampion Coma

Toyota Gazoo Racing oznámil sestavu pro lednovou Rallye Dakar, která se poprvé uskuteční na území Saúdské Arábie. Tovární tým postaví posádky ve složení Nasser Al-Attiyah - Mathieu Baumel, Giniel de Villiers - Alex Haro, Bernhard Ten Brinke - Tom Colsoul a Fernando Alonso - Marc Coma.

Kromě obhájce vítězství z minulého ročníku Al-Attiyaha se bezesporu největší pozornost soustředí na maratonskou premiéru dvojnásobného mistra světa F1. Alonso se bude opírat o zkušenosti spolujezdce Comy, majícího na svém kontě pět dakarských triumfů – ovšem v kategorii motocyklů. Oba v současnosti dokončují náročný tréninkový program, jehož plánovaný objem překročili více než dvakrát.

Toyota nasazuje vylepšenou verzi speciálu Hilux

Všechny dvojice budou mít k dispozici nejnovější specifikaci Toyoty Hilux, připravenou v Jihoafrické republice. Vůz se vyznačuje nezávislým zavěšením kol, umístěním motoru mezi nápravami a stálým pohonem všech kol. K pohonu slouží pětilitrový atmosférický osmiválec.

Rallye Dakar 2020 odstartuje 5. ledna ve městě Džidda na západě země. Trasa směřuje na sever a následně se stočí jihovýchodně k metropoli Rijádu. Další pokračování vede přes největší souvislou písečnou poušť světa Rub al-Chálí. Do cíle v Al-Qiddiyi dorazí účastníci 17. ledna.
