Jeho aktuálním držitelem je Porsche 911 Turbo S

Bentley v letošním roce slaví kulaté 100. narozeniny. Jako dárek si nadělí zbrusu nový model Continental Flying Spur. Ale pošilhává po ještě jednom, který se však nemusí podařit. Bentley chce být držitelem rekordu v kategorii sériových aut v závodu do vrchu Pikes Peak.

Na trať se vydá Rhys Millen, jenž s ní má bohaté zkušenosti. Minulý rok totiž zajel rekord mezi sériovými SUV, a to s Bentley Bentayga 6.0 W12. Na dvacetikilometrové trati se 156 zatáčkami dosáhl času 12:35,6. To je slušný výkon.

Jenže tentokrát to bude mnohem těžší, protože absolutní rekord mezi sériovými auty drží úžasné Porsche 911 Turbo S 991, kterému v roce 2015 stačilo pouze 10:25,6. O překonání se pokusí model Bentley Continental GT 6.0 W12, jehož motor doplněný o dvojici turb produkuje 635 koní výkonu a nemá daleko do 1000 Nm točivého momentu. Poháněna jsou všechna kola přes osmistupňovou automatickou převodovku a hmotnost celého vozu překračuje o více než 200 kilogramů dvě tuny. Akcelerace z 0 na 100 km/h mu zabere 3,7 sekundy a jede až 333 km/h.

Stroj, který se pokusí o rekord, bude plně sériový. Navíc dostane pouze bezpečnostní rám a kyslík pro řidiče, jelikož závod končí ve výšce 4300 metrů nad mořem.

Také si říkáte, že těžké GT nemůže porazit opravdu sportovní Porsche? My se bojíme, že se to Bentley nepovede, ale třeba se mýlíme. Jestli Bentley Porsche porazí, bude to podobná senzace, jako když Ruiz v boxerském ringu minulý týden nečekaně knockoutoval doposud neporaženého šampiona Joshuu.
