Čtyřválcový přeplňovaný motor 2,0 l disponuje technologií Mini TwinPower Turbo, vyvinutou speciálně pro modely John Cooper Works, a využívá rovněž variabilní rozvod Valvetronic. Ve vozech Mini John Cooper Works Clubman a Mini John Cooper Works Countryman má výkon 225 kW (306 k) mezi 5000 a 6250/min a maximální točivý moment 450 N.m v širokém rozsahu otáček od 1750 do 4500/min.

V obou vozech je motor standardně spojen s novou osmistupňovou převodovkou Steptronic Sport. Dále jsou zde mechanická závěrka diferenciálu na přední nápravě, systém pohonu všech kol ALL4, specificky naladěný podvozek, přídavné výztuhy struktury karoserie a zpevněné spojení motoru a šasi s nosnou strukturou vozu. Při normální jízdě s aktivovaným systémem DSC se točivý moment přenáší na přední kola. Pokud ovládání DSC zaznamená riziko prokluzu předních kol, elektronicky řízená spojka přesune točivý moment dozadu.
