Tidemand je již nemůže předstihnout

Veškeré pochybnosti zmizely. Škoda Motorsport dnes oficiálně oznámila, že Jan Kopecký a Pavel Dresler se stali mistry světa v rallye v kategorii WRC2. Jejich jediný zbývající konkurent Pontus Tidemand už nedostane šanci se před ně dostat.

„Viděli jsme fantastický souboj mezi Tidemandem a Kopeckým. Oběma jezdcům jsme umožnili startovat v šesti soutěžích. Jan teď ve Španělsku pojede svoji rallye číslo šest. Pontus jej již nemůže předstihnout, protože svých šest podniků odjel,“ uvedl šéf továrního týmu Michal Hrabánek. Zároveň potvrdil, že závěrečného klání seriálu v Austrálii se stáj nezúčastní.

Posádka Kopecký – Dresler až dosud v letošním roce absolvovala v MS pět startů (Monte Carlo, Korsika, Sardínie, Německo, Turecko) a vždy vyhrála kategorii WRC2. V absolutním pořadí se jí nejvíce dařilo v Rally Turkey, kde dojela sedmá. Současně suverénně obhájila titul mezinárodního mistra České republiky včetně prvenství v prestižní Barum Czech Rally Zlín.

Kopecký je naším druhým světovým šampionem v automobilových soutěžích a třetím celkově (po soutěžákovi Martinu Prokopovi a motokáristovi Patriku Hájkovi). Už předtím si ale připsal na svoje konto evropský (2013) a asijsko-pacifický (2014) primát.

V první dekádě tohoto století soupeřil s nejlepšími jezdci světa v šampionátu WRC. Nejvýše se umístil v Katalánské rally 2005 a Německé rally 2006, vždy na pátém místě. Je rovněž šestinásobným mezinárodním mistrem ČR, na domácích tratích neprohrál od roku 2015.

Drtivá část jeho kariéry je spjata se značkou Škoda. Postupně usedal do speciálů Octavia, Octavia WRC, Fabia WRC, Fabia S2000 a Fabia R5.V mládí si také vyzkoušel rallyekros a okruhové závody (vyhrál mj. Česká pojišťovna - Škoda Octavia Cup 2001).
