Střecha na LC Convertible má vydržet všechno

Lexus v minulosti nikdy nevyráběl model s látkovou střechou. Premiéru si odbyl až u vozu LC Convertible. S o to větší pečlivostí k tomu přistoupil.

Konstruktéři podrobili zařízení testování do kritického bodu, přičemž zjistili, že první závada nastane až po 18 tisících cyklech natažení a stažení. Mechanismus funguje stejně spolehlivě i za sněhu a při teplotách pod bodem mrazu.

Vícevrstvý materiál blokuje nežádoucí hluky. Stejně tichý je také hydraulický elektromotor. 

Stažená střecha nic neubírá z objemu zavazadelníku

Střechu se podařilo vměstnat mezi věže zavěšení zadních kol, zatímco jednotka kapalinového motoru se nachází ve volném prostoru za zadními sedadly. Objem zavazadelníku (172 litrů) tak zůstal stejný jako u varianty kupé.

Aktivace nebo stažení trvají patnáct sekund a operaci lze spustit i za jízdy rychlostí až 50 km/h. Zkoušky v aerodynamickém tunelu prokázaly, že kabriolet má dokonce lepší dynamické vlastnosti než kupé. Natažená střecha je totiž níže a navíc díky použití kombinace hořčíku a hliníku při výrobě jejího rámu také extrémně lehká.
