Dragster je žíznivější než nákladní loď

Americký prodejce sestav čerpadel paliva Auteria porovnal množství pohonných hmot, dopravovaného různými palivovými čerpadly. Podíval se na nákladní lodě, letadla, dragster kategorie Top Fuel, automobily pro závody NASCAR a další vozidla, která vyžadují od svých palivových čerpadel velký výkon. Grafika znázorňuje spotřebu paliva v galonech za hodinu (1 US galon = 3,785 l) a pro pobavení přidává jedno hodně speciální vozidlo, vyžadující palivové čerpadlo o extrémním výkonu.

 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Zde je několik důležitých údajů z grafu, které jsme doplnili o kalkulace odpovídajících emisí CO2:
- Nákladní loď spotřebuje asi 4364 galonů (16 520 l) paliva za hodinu. To znamená každou hodinu emise 438 kg CO2.
- Palivová čerpadla Boeingu 777 musejí přečerpat 2966 galonů (11 228 l) za hodinu, ale tato enormní práce je rozdělena mezi dvě až šest čerpadel. Spálením tohoto množství leteckého benzinu se uvolní emise 273 kg CO2.
- Tahač Freigtliner Cascadia potřebuje k hodině jízdy 8,4 galonu (31,8 l) paliva. Spálením tohoto množství nafty vzniknou emise CO2 ve výši 843 g.
- Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JL vyžaduje přečerpání 1,8 galonu (6,8 l) paliva za hodinu. Spálením tohoto množství benzinu se uvolní 158 g CO2.
- Palivové čerpadlo skútru Honda Ruckus musí rozpohybovat jen 0,2 galonu (0,8 l) paliva za hodinu.
- Závodní sedan ze seriálu NASCAR Cup Series načerpá 40 galonů (150 l) paliva za hodinu.
- Palivo dragsteru kategorie Top Fuel Rage Black Mamba dokáže načerpat 7400 galonů (28 000 l) paliva za hodinu, ale běží pouze několik sekund.
